Medicine and brand names

PatientScribe recognises medicine names in your note using a list that is based on content from the Federal Register of Legislation at 26 September 2026. For the latest information on Australian Government legislation please go to https://www.legislation.gov.au. The source is the National Health (Listing of Pharmaceutical Benefits) Instrument 2024 (PB 26 of 2024), Compilation No. 28, Schedule 1, https://www.legislation.gov.au/F2024L00426/latest/text, used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). Changes were made: medicine and brand names were extracted from the Listed Drug and Brand columns, lowercased, tokenised and filtered, and combined with a short list of common over-the-counter medicine names compiled by PatientScribe. No endorsement by the Commonwealth is implied. Brand names are the trade marks of their owners and are used only to recognise medicine names in your own note.

Common-word list

To avoid mistaking ordinary words for medicine names, PatientScribe uses a list of English words that it selected and modified from the word-frequency data in wordfreq 3.1.1 by Robyn Speer (Copyright 2022 Robyn Speer, https://github.com/rspeer/wordfreq). The list holds a subset of words only, without frequency values, plus hyphenated forms generated by PatientScribe. The wordfreq data is used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/) and is provided as is, without warranties. wordfreq's data includes the freely available SUBTLEX word lists by Marc Brysbaert et al. and data from OpenSubtitles (https://www.opensubtitles.org); all of its sources are listed at https://github.com/rspeer/wordfreq/blob/master/NOTICE.md.
